Spoiler-alert warning: I half expected the discovery that the following footsteps at the end to belong to Julia, and not the person about whose shoulders the lead had his arm... I have also to add that at the point in the story when the sight of a young Aunt Julia was found to be disturbing, I was reminded of a 50ish woman I knew who had a little lifting done around her eyes. Like the main character, her children were greatly disconcerted and wished they could blink and undo the transformation.
